I've never seen a reason to stay in a room other than the most affordable, Garden and Ocean View.

We've stayed in this type of room twice. One Garden and One Ocean. (on the attached map 1018 and 1005)

Post your experiences with the rooms you have stayed in or ask any question about the rooms here.

I'll start...

1005 is a Garden View room that faces the entrance of Desire. I think it is larger than many of the other Garden/Ocean View rooms. It is very close to the Crocodile Pond which is a great place to take tourist shots that you can show to vanillas. It is also very close to the pool, restaurants and jacuzi.

1018 overlooks the pool but the view is partially obscured by trees. (not complaining, they give you "cover" for naughty nighttime sexcapades.) Before we booked we had read that many people do not like this room because it is under the jacuzi and tends to get a lot of noise. The noise never bothered me, maybe because I was the one making it.  Shocked

I prefer to stay close to the pool but it might be nice to try and stay on the beach this time.

Any of you ever stay in a Jacuzi Suite? I've seen the Passion Suites (they rock) but I've never seen one of the Jacuzi Suites. How many people can you fit in the Jacuzi?

John

Go with most affordable...that means a return trip ASAP!  Desire was kind enough to give us a jacuzzi suite for a night....but...it takes a bit for the thing to fill and where is the social interaction?

We were hoping for a set of twins, but then again who isn't? You know, to push together and make a king. What did you think I was talking about? Oh, I get it. I like the way your mind works.

Sorry, John. Back to the topic at hand. We just want a room with a comfortable bed so we can recharge and then drain our batteries, so to speak, elsewhere.

If you arrive and happen to be dissatisfied with the room, the staff is generally very good about getting you reassigned to a new one w/ minimal hassle.  While I think there is no such thing as a bad bed at Desire, we did end up in a room w/ a bit of a musty smell due to some previous plumbing issues.  We asked the staff for a new one, and they accommodated as soon as possible.  All we had to do was pack our stuff up, and the luggage fairy came and transported all our stuff to our new room while we were lounging by the pool.

We've been in the following rooms over the years;

2514 - OV - small and not really worth it - the advent of the beach beds renders this semi ocean view. As well, the upstairs 'walls' makes it hard to actually see the water.
2313 - GV - nice decent size room. Quiet end of the property
1711 - GV - loved this due to the shared balcony with friends
1402 - GV - turned 40 in this room. Best holiday ever.
1008 - Nice room, wouldn't want to be on the second level of this building.
1302 - GV - first trip to the resort. We ain't in Kansas no more Toto.
1100 block: Passion suites, can't remember the number - second closest to the pool on the first level. Great room - in our opinion not worth the price. We took this room last year because we negotiated 1/2 price for it at the desk at check in. Still not worth the coin. We are never in our room at the resort - so not sure why we bothered.

We do the passion suite.  On our first trip, we had one garden view room way out, and perhaps it was maybe the worst one on the resort, but we really didn't like it.  It was too far away, had a bad smell, and just wasn't conducive to good mojo so we upgraded and have stayed in the passion suites ever since.

They're a lot of money, but this is our one "spoil me, pamper me, don't give a damn" vacation each year where we enjoy the attention we get from the staff.  The added value is definitely in having the staff working for you in the passion suite, however, you have to work them!  Make sure they're bringing you dessert promptly each night in your room, breakfast every morning, and never hesitate to have them run out into town to buy you something.  They're cool with it and do it with a smile.

As devils advocate, the PS is approx twice the price of a GV....so..with that being said:

a) Free room service in every room renders bringing desert or breakfast to your room all that special? The only difference is that you have to make the request in a GV room, whereas your 'butler' will seek you out and ask you when you are in a PS.
b) SInce the PS is $300-400/night - getting the staff to run into town for you is ONE HELL of a lot more expensive than having a cab do the same thing, or better yet, any bartender at the resort will do the same for you for a couple of bucks.

Just sayin.

So we made our reservation and paid the deposit for the SC Desire Trip in 2012, on Saturday. We booked a gardenview room and figure that will suffice for our honeymoon. I know there are ALOT of Desire vets on this board and wanted to know which area of the resort is a good room location? Near the pool, near the lounge, near the restaurants, etc.?  Since we booked the lowest room category, hopefully we can at least get a good spot in the resort. I have attached a map of the resort for a reference.

Thanks!

Hey A&J,

I merged your question with another similar question about rooms.

Allie and I like to stay in 1311 or 1312. It is near the pool/disco/jacuzi and it has a balcony where lots of our guest walk by all the time. It's a great way for us to be in the center of the party and keep up with the group's happenings.

Other friends prefer to stay out of the area around the bar and disco because some of those rooms are closer to the beach and perhaps quieter at night.

Some of the rooms are bigger, some smaller but they are all nice in my experience. Might come down to whether you want to be closer to the ocean or the pool?

We cannot make room requests until 30 days prior to our event. When that time comes, you can use express check-in on Desire's site or simply send a request to Dream Pleasures and they will help. One great perk of our group is Dream Pleasures sends a very knowledgeable and friendly representative (Zee!) down to the resort to assist our guests during their stay.

Hope you find this helpful.

Besos,

John

Hi A&J,
I have to agree with everything John said.  The whole resort is not as big as it looks from the map. You can easily walk from one end to the other without breaking a sweat in under 10 minutes.
The room choices will depend entirely on what you are looking for.  The buildings like 1200 and 1300 are right in the middle of everything and are centrally located, in the thick of everything.
1700, 1800, 1900 are on the other side of the lobby bar, so they are very close, but are much quieter because of their distance from the pool and the music/activities.
We ummmm  "visited" a room in the 2100 building. The room layout seemed to be a touch bigger, but it was a little farther from the pool/hot tub area, although with easy access to the beach beds.

Our first request is always for a King sized bed.  There are a few rooms that have smaller beds so that is more important than location to us. Then we begin requesting building numbers based on where we like to be.

The room numbers are all four digits. The first two digits are the building number.  The third digit tells you what floor 0- ground floor 1- upstairs.  The fourth digit is the room number.

In regards to beach/pool beds, is Desire setup the same way where people with passion suites get their own bed and the rest of us are left to try and "reserve" beds the night before with a pair of shoes or a book?  This policy at Temptations was really aggravating because people reserve a bed before going to bed the night before and then don't even use the bed till 11-12 the next day.

Things may have changed, but when we were last there at attendant came on duty around 7am (I was NEVER up that early).
So you'd see the attendant and he'd give you a bed.  It was yours as long as you used it. If it was unattended for a couple of hours he would keep track of that and turn it over to someone else wanting to use it.
In addition you could "reserve" a bed for $20 a day or $100 a week and that bed would be yours for the duration of your reservation.
