Lessons from Desire 09 - What have you learned?

As I readjust back to "normal" life, I ponder back on our trip to Desire compared to our other trips and have a couple things which are noteworthy.

1.  The time you stay is key to making the adjustment easier.  In 07 we went for 6 days 5 nights.  We were crushed to come home and it took weeks to lose that feeling.  This time we went for 9 days 8 nights, and while it still stung to leave, it was easier.  I think that going and having a few days before the group came to just decompress and do nothing was key as well.  This is something I will definitely do again.

2.  It's okay not to dress the theme or even go to the disco...  In our trip this time there were 2 or 3 nights that we never even made it to the disco, and honestly we didn't seem to miss anything.  Likewise, not stressing to death over what we'd wear each night was a good relaxer this time around vice 07.

So now, what did you learn???

We learned:

1. Less is more. We carried on suitcase each and bag of bath stuff etc and one carry on each. I still didn't touch half of what I brought in my suitcase.

2. Theme nights are great fun, but once you have done them a few times the thrill is gone. Just dressing sexy and being comfortable is key.

3. We LOVE making new friends and reconnecting with old ones.

4. 5 nights is perfect anything longer than that is way to long for us unless we are touring Europe or on a multi-city tour of the west coast

5. Bodyshots are indeed fun.

6. L's body can negotiate any language barrier

7. Learning pole dance moves gets the ladies excited.

8. The Hottub Rocked!

9. Drama sucks

10. John and Allie rock as friends/hosts and attract the best people.

Here are a few things that we took away from this trip:

• Making friends before the trip is awesome.
• Take more time out to meet and talk to people.
• We need to be more forward with what we want.

Where do I start?

1. Be on the lookout for the Latina Vortex crew.  Those women are  
2. Be in the hot tub before dinner.
3. Stress less about costumes.
4. If you want your face to hurt from smiling/laughing, hang out with J and N as much as possible
5. Take the time to get to know people - even the folks you haven't communicated with before the trip.  I was abolutely blown away by the fun, deep, and sexy conversations we had.  That is a turn-on for me.
6. Allow more than 15 minutes to say goodbye to BunnyRabbit at the pool.

What we learned:

1. We're not 3rd shift swingers. We were really burned out w/ by the 5th night of trying to party during the 10PM-4AM time slot.

2. We're really not hot tub swingers either.  At least not the sardine-packed hot tub variety.  I think it shocked us both to find this out.

3. We packed WAY too much shit. There is a rule in backpacking: make a pile of only the essential things you need, then cut that pile in half, then cut it in half again.  The same applies to Desire.  (K. adds an addendum to this rule: every pair of shoes she brought, she wore.)

4. Time flies when you're having fun.

5. A 51 degree farenheit night in Cancun feels much different than a 51 degree night in Central Kentucky.

7. Fucking in the ocean isn't easy, but sure is a lot of fun.

8. And finally, nothing nips personal drama in the bud like laying in hammock w/ your partner listening to the waves crash and feeling the breeze and just being w/ each other.

3. I told ya!

1. Our friends got our backs!  Even when life threw us lemons, ie, our missed plane and lost luggage, it was so awesome to have friends who ordered us room service and shared their wardrobes with Allie on our first night. Next time, we might not even pack a single stitch of clothes. Hell, we might not even book a room and just stay with our   friends.

2. Nothing beats meeting people in person for great conversation and HOT times.

3. The Passion Suites Rock. I'd love for our group to reserve a couple of these rooms for our next trip.

4. V is better at TV trivia than Jeff. (But only by one chi-chi chip)  

5. I still can't play more than 4 cards of Swing Set.  

6. "La Loca Kola Chica" can save anything! Just ask Superman. His wife saved my wife's toes.  

7. Allie looks great in a wig.  

8. Skydozer has a tendency to stumble into Jenga BJ's

I find that to be a good thing. 
Not only is the game doing it's job, everytime you play you will new cards which keep the game fresh and exciting.

We found out that:
1. Mr. Sfcpl really does look a bit like Vin Diesel
2. A sharpie and a Jenga piece can work in conjunction with one another
3. When Mr. Kentuckycpl stops me at Suki, it really means hes checking out Sue's boobs. Not a problem, I was too.
4. Playing Scavenger Hunt looked a lot more fun than chasing down the Lomas guy about our transfer back to the airport
5. 2am pizza still rocks!

1. If at 1:00 am there is no cheese pizza in the magic pizza cabinet, you can request one to be made!

2. If the Swingercast crowd had left at home all the clothes we didn't wear, books we didn't read, and junk we didn't need, it would have conserved enough fuel to have saved 0.0034 rain-forests, one small glacier, and three polar bears.  Who knew so much guilt could arise from a pair of cotton Costco boxers...  

3. It is always the quiet ones...

4. The water at Desire appeared to be completely safe.

5. An empty plastic tumbler from the bar is no match for the energetic cancun breezes.

6. Don't depend on the cheeseburgers for sustenance.  (only the second Cheeseburger I've ever found to be somewhat inedible)
The grill by the pool does however make a mean chicken sandwich.

7. Leave room for ice cream at lunch.

8. If you bring a brand-new hi-tech LED-based lantern from REI, it will ensure that the only power failure will be during the day and last 12 seconds.

9. Mango ice cream - surprisingly good.

10. If John and Allie are throwing a party - you *go*!

11. Squirting alcohol into the mouths of those who make an error in the water volleyball game is sending a mixed message regarding the goals of team-based sports.
 
12. Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line!

Here are some of the things I learned on this TRIP OF A LIFETIME!!    

1. If you're going to get sick off too many blue 'Desire' drinks, don't eat guacamole for 3 days straight prior (ewwwww). But, that quac really was awesome!

2. It was our 1st experience with theme nights, so I'm glad we did them, but defintely won't do ALL of them next time and will pack much lighter!

3. Don't pole dance when you're drunk as you wake up with lots of unattractive bruises.

4. Being drunk is not an excuse to touch/kiss/suck people without asking them first (I admit, I was a repeat offender).

5. Definitely have sex on the playbeds at night by the jacuzzi -- with or without new parters -- it's so hot.

6. If you want to do something new & fun, ask a fun, new friend! Thanks Penzer!

7. Don't waste a minute being shy. We wish we had asked a couple or 2 to our room!

8. I learned that John & Allie have some of the sexiest, funniest, most interesting friends and I love hanging out with them.

9. Get to know someone before you decide you're not interested.  We found as we got to know people they were often even more alluring and desirable.

10. Be upfront and honest about where you are in your 'swinger journey'...play is always more relaxing & fun when everybody is on the same page.

11. The best thing I learned on this trip (and it surprises me to learn this on a swinging trip) is how much I love and enjoy my husband. He is the best partner for me ever! And I'm so thankful that he lets me explore my wild side so freely. I love you, D!

1.  Although this was our 5th trip to a lifestyle friendly resort, it was our first time of going with a group like Swingercast, and we had such a great time that I think we will always try to travel with a group.  
2.  Getting to meet everyone online with the SC forum, especially Twitter was great.  We both felt like we knew everyone before we met for the first time and it certainly shortened the "get to know me" time(though that was fun too!)
3.  We learned sooo much from this trip about what we want from the lifestyle and what we are comfortable with right now. It was enlightening to talk to so many different couples and learn that anywhere you are in the lifestyle "spectrum" is ok, if that's where you want to be. Everyone was very understanding of where we were and didn't EVER make us feel uncomfortable.
4.  Not so interested in the random group grope, but really into the interaction of two couples getting to know each other.  We both learned that we want to have some sort of relationship with the other couple and not just sport fuck. We don't have to date but we do want to connect on some level before we play.  
5.  This group is great and we can't wait for the next get together.

Is it just me, or does that sound kind of hot?  

(In all seriousness, that's a really good way to put it.  I think we felt the same way, and that's one of the reasons we didn't really go back into the playroom by ourselves much, whereas at a normal club we would have.)

Don't knock the playroom at Desire until you try it!  Although we've never been with another couple in the playroom, some of our hottest times have been in there with a bunch of other people around, with everyone doing their own thing.  On this last trip we were right beside a couple that we had got to know and it was so hot to be getting busy with them right beside us.  Maybe next time we'll cross the line!
